Fulfilling The Trusts
By Shaykh Ashraf Salah

Dear Muslims:
Allah (SWT) orders us to preserve legal obligations and truthfulness in conduct. He (SWT) says:
“Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those to whom they are due, and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching that He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer.”   (4:58).
It is also stated in the Holy Quran that every one should give people their due rights. Allah (SWT) says:
“..But if the killer is forgiven by the brother (or the relatives, etc.) of the killed against blood money, then adhering to it with fairness and payment of the blood-money to the heir should be made in fairness..”   (2:178).

If one really fears Allah (SWT), it will be easy to him to fulfill the trusts. The Holy Quran reads:
“..Then if one of you entrust the other, let the one who is entrusted discharge his trust (faithfully), and let him be afraid of Allah, his Lord..”   (2:282).
Allah (SWT) is surely pleased with the Muslim who does not betray the others. He (SWT) says:
“Yes, whoever fulfills his pledge and fears Allah much, verily, then Allah loves those who are Al-Muttaqun (the pious) “ (3:76).

Also, among the successful believers are: “Those who are faithfully true to their Amanat (all the duties  which Allah has ordained, honesty, moral responsibility and trusts) and to their covenants” as it is clear in verse number eight in surat Al-Muminun.

Dear Muslims:
The prophet (PBUH) has told us that there is a great effect of trusts in the day of judgement. On the authority of Hudhaifah and Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with them) who said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: "Allah will assemble mankind, and the believers will stand till Paradise will be brought near them. They will then go to Adam (may peace be upon him) and say, 'O our father, ask Allah (exalted and glorified be He), that Paradise may be opened for us,' but he will reply: 'There was nothing that put you out of Paradise except your father's sin. I am not the one to do that, go to my son Ibrahim (Abraham), the beloved man of Allah.' Then Ibrahim (may peace be upon him) when approached, will say: 'I am not the one to do that, for I was only a friend; and that is not a lofty status but ask Musa (Moses) to whom Allah spoke.' They will then go to Musa (may peace be upon him) but he will say: 'I am not the one to do that; go to `Isa (Jesus), Allah's Word and spirit.' `Isa (may peace be upon him) will say: 'I am not the one to do that.' So they will come to me; and I will stand and be given permission. Amanah (trust) and ties of relationship will be sent forth and will stand on the sides of the Sirat (that is, the Bridge set over Hell - fire) right and left, and the first of you will pass like lightning." I said (that is Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him)): "I ransom you with my father and mother, what is like the movement of lightning?" The Messenger of Allah replied, "Have you not seen how the lightning goes and returns in the twinkling of an eye? Next (group will pass) like the passing of the breeze, next like the passing of a bird, and the next with the speed of a running man, according to the quality of their deeds." (During all this time) your Prophet (may peace be upon him) will remain standing on the Bridge saying: 'O my Lord, keep (them) safe, keep (them) safe,' till men's deeds are so weak that a man comes who will be able only to crawl. On both sides of the Bridge pronged flesh hooks, placed under command will be hung and will seize those about whom they receive command, some people being lacerated and escaping and others being thrown violently into Hell. Abu Hurairah added: By Him in Whose Hand Abu Hurairah's soul is, the pit of Jahannam (Hell) is seventy years in depth. (Reported by Muslim).

Brothers and sisters in Islam:
The prophet (PBUH) has told us also that when guardianship is withheld from people, noble values are neglected and hypocrisy spreads, which leads to the destruction of the community. Hudhaifah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: I have seen one (being fulfilled), and I am waiting for the other. He (may peace be upon him) told us, "Amanah (the trust) descended in the innermost (root) of the hearts of men (that is, it was in their heart innately, by Fitrah, or pure human nature). Then the Qur'an was revealed and they learnt from the Qur'an and they learnt from the Sunnah." Then the Prophet (may peace be upon him) told us about the removal of Amanah. He said, "The man would have some sleep, and Amanah would be taken away from his heart leaving the impression of a faint mark. He would again sleep, and Amanah would be taken away from his heart leaving an impression of a blister, as if you rolled down an ember on your foot and it was vesicled. He would see a swelling having nothing in it." He (may peace be upon him) then took up a pebble and rolled it over his foot and said, "The people would enter into transactions with one another and hardly a person would be left who would return (things) entrusted to him (and there would look like an honest person) till it would be said: 'In such and such tribe there is a trustworthy man.' And they would also say about a person: 'How prudent he is! How handsome he is and how intelligent he is!' whereas in his heart there would be no grain of Faith." Hudhaifah bin Al - Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him) added: I had a time when I did not care with whom amongst you I did business, I entered into a transaction, for if he were a Muslim, his Faith would compel him to discharge his obligation to me; and if he were a Christian or a Jew, his guardian (surety) would compel him to discharge his obligation to me. But today I would not enter into a transaction except with so - and - so. (Reported by Al - Bukhari and Muslim). In another Hadith Abu Hurairah (RAA) reported that once the Prophet (may peace be upon him) was speaking to us when a Bedouin came and asked him: "When will the Last Day be?" The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) continued his talk. Some of those present thought that he had heard him but disliked the interruption and the other said that he had not heard him. When the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) concluded his speech he asked, "Where is the one who inquired about the Last Day?" The man replied: "Here I am." The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) replied, "When the practice of honouring a trust is lost, expect the Last Day." He asked: "How could it be lost?" He replied, "When the important affairs of the public are entrusted to the undeserving people, then wait for the Last Day."  (Reported by Al - Bukhari).

Also, betrayal is a characteristic of hypocrisy. Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) said: "There are three signs of a hypocrite: When he speaks, he lies; when he makes a promise, he breaks it; and when he is trusted, he betrays his trust." (Reported by Al - Bukhari and Muslim)
Another narration adds the words: "Even if he observes fasts, performs prayer and asserts that he is a Muslim".

Dear Muslims:
The greatest Amanah is the Islamic message itself. This means that we should obey Allah (SWT) and his messenger (PBUH), do our best to defend our religion and support our Muslim brothers. Allah (SWT) says:
“Truly, We did offer Al-Amanah (all duties which Allah has ordained) to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they declined to bear it and were afraid of it . But man bore it. Verily, he was unjust (to himself) and ignorant (of its results)”.  (33:72). This meaning is established by the Quranic verse which reads:
“O you who believe! Betray not Allah and His Messenger, nor betray knowingly your Amanat (things entrusted to you, and all the duties which Allah has ordained for you”.  (8:27).

We ask Allah (SWT) to make us from those pious believers who fulfill their Amanat, obey Him (SWT) and carry out their responsibility towards their religion and nation.

May Allah (SWT) help the believers to liberate their Holy places, guide and forgive us all. (Ameen).
