Human
Rights In The Face Of Tribulations
By Shaykh Ashraf Salah
Dear Muslims:
The Prophet (PBUH)
was persecuted in the propagation of the call to the truth until he migrated
with his religion from Makkah to Madinah, and the polytheists continued to
persecute him and his companions, so that the following verse was revealed:
“Permissiom to fight against disbelievers is given to those (believers) who are
fought against, because they have been wronged, and surely, Allah is able to
give them (believers) victory”. (Al-Hajj 39). Allah (SWT) ordered the believers
to fight their enemy and promised them victory over them when He (SWT) said:
“Fight against them so that Allah will punish them by your hands and disgrace
them and give you victory over them and heal the breasts of a believing people,
and remove the anger of theie hearts. Allah accepts the repentance of whom He
wills. Allah is all-knowing, All-wise”. (At-Taubah 14-15).
At the same time
Allah (SWT) forbade the believers from transgressing when He said: “And fight
in the way of Allah those who fight you, but transgress not the limits. Truly,
Allah likes not the transgressors”. (Al-Baqarah 190). Also, Allah (SWT)
referred to these tribulations and their perpetrators before then at the
beginning of Surah Al-Ankabut: “Do people think that they will be left alone
because they say: “We believe”, and will not be tested. And We indeed tested
those who were before them. And Allah will certainly make it known those who
are true, and will certainly make it known those who are liars”. (Al-Ankabut
2-3).
Allah the Exalted
explained in foregoing remarkable verse to the believers that they would not be
left alone in their belief and prayer to Him without Allah (SWT) establishing
the sincerity of their prayer and testing them in various events in order to
reveal any deep anxieties.
Dear Muslims:
Allah the Exalted
does not guarantee to any of His servants to make things totally easy for him in
his wish for happiness, peace, and security, because the wisdom of Allah the
Exalted decrees that people live between ease and hardship, abundance and
scarcity, wealth and poverty, health and illness, agreement and disagreement,
war and peace, and the like from amongst life’s conditions as a purification
for the patient and a destruction for the hypocrites.
Islamic history
lesson shows these hardships that befell this Ummah with destruction,
devastation, killing and the experience of all kinds of punishment and
tribulations, some of which caused the distortion of the teachings of Islam and
disunited the Arabs, others challenged the very existence of Islam and every
leader who carried the flag of Islam and everyone who showed zeal for Islam and
its followers.
Dear Brothers And Sisters In Islam:
The prophet (PBUH) said during his
farewell pilgrimage: “O people, your Lord is one, and your father is one, we
are all from Adam and Adam was from dust. Neither does the Arab excel over the
foreigner, nor the foreigner over the Arab, nor the red over the white, nor the
white over the red, except by piety. Have I not conveyed the message? Allah, be
my witness. Let the one who is present tell the one who isn’t”. However,
in
this day and age many laws are laid down in order to distinguish between
nationalities and colours. Lies are continually produced to destroy mankind and
civilisation with cluster bombs and surface missiles and other destroyers of
towns and the killing of citizens amongst innocent Muslims like the elderly,
the sick, children, and women.
The Muslim should
then be sincere in all his righteous work for Allah (SWT) and in his love for
his brother. He should not help the enemy against his brother whatever the
situation. We must all understand that the religion of Islam calls for the
unity of society and distances itself from dislike and differences and
disagreements, just as it fights all the causes of division and devices of
enmity and transgression of the rights of others, as the prophet (PBUH) said in
a Sahih hadith:
“For every Muslim
the wealth, honour, and life of another Muslim are sacred.” So if any person
abandons a Muslim in a situation which violates his rights or diminishes his
dignity, Allah will abandon him when he is in need of help, and if a Muslim
helps a Muslim in a situation which diminishes his dignity and violates his
rights, Allah will help him when he is in need of help. Therefore Muslims
should try to unite their ranks, achieve harmony amongst themselves, and remove
the obstacles and stop anything that creates differences and dispute, so that
the Muslims have united politics, united culture, and united aim, and that this
will be a sign to mankind that the Muslim nation is like a single body and a
strong building. The aim of this nation should be the work towards unity and
elimination of enmity and purification of the holy land from every
transgression, so that individualism comes to an end and the spirit of
togetherness takes its place.
Dear Muslims:
Amongst the rights
of Islamic brotherhood is mutual assistance. Muslims are equal, and even the
least of them comes under their protection, and they are a single entity
besides all else, as the prophet (PBUH) described them in an agreed upon
Hadith: “The likeness of the believers in their mutual love, mercy, and
kindness is like that of a single body, if a member of it suffers, the rest of
the body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.”
Be aware o Muslims
that the enemies of Islam and the Muslims strive hard to break up the ranks and
cast hatred and anger amongst the people of a single country in order to
exploit their natural resources and wealth. Unfortunately they have found
amongst the ranks of the Muslims those who help them in this in opposition to
the command of Allah: “..Help you one another in virtue, righteousness, and
piety, but do not help one another in sin and transgression. And fear Allah.
Verily, Allah is severe in punishment. (Al-Ma’idah 2). Whoever joins them and
helps them in their distressing plunder of the wealth of the Muslims and
robbing them of their freedom will have sold both his religion and his homeland
and become a worshipper and servant of materialism, for it is not befitting for
a Muslim to help the various enemies, whom: “Satan has overpowered them. So he
has made them forget the remembrance of Allah. They are the party of Satan.
Verily, it is the party of Satan that will be the losers”. (Al-Mujadilah 19).
Moreover, Allah
(SWT) stated the truth saying: “Those who oppose Allah and His Messengers, they
will be among the lowest (most humiliated). Allah has decreed: “Verily, It is I
and My Messengers who shall be the victorious.” Verily, Allah is All-Powerful,
All-Mighty”. (Al-Mujadilah 20, 21).
Dear Muslims:
We must not forget
our oppressed Muslim brothers in our prayer and invocations. Working to help
our brothers must never stop, so that we demonstrate to the whole world that we
are a living nation with things that are holy and sacred and that the blood of
Muslims is not cheap and free for all, and so that we move from a diversity of
directions towards an effort to stop our sufferings and towards saving the
blood and preserving the souls and looking after the children and old people
and women amongst the innocent civilians. Allah (SWT) says:
“And do not be as
those who divided and differed among themselves after rhe clear proofs have
come to them. It is they for whom there is an awful torment”. (Al ‘Imran 105).
Don’t waver
then o Muslims in your effort, for it will bear results. We must call for the
Islamic Ummah to help the people of Iraq in this tribulation with a sincere
prayer to Allah (SWT), the High and Mighty, to lift the burden and hardship
from our brothers in Iraq and Palestine and Afghanistan and India and Chechnya
and any Muslim country, and that He (SWT) extends to them a helping and caring
hand, and that He (SWT) makes His word supreme.
So fear Allah
your Lord, and return to Him as He commands you, and pay heed to Him in your
work and know that goodness does not waste away and sin will not be forgotten,
so do what you want o brother Muslim, as you deal you shall be dealt with, and
“repent you all to Allah, o believers, in order to be successful” (An-Nur 31).
O Allah, strengthen our resolve and give us courage and patience to
endure hardship and overcome evil.
May Allah (SWT) forgive our sins, increase our Iman,
bestow our world more peace and security and bless us all. May He (SWT) stop
our bloodshed, save every body from all sources of evil, and put an end to all
crises. May He (SWT) help us to acknowledge our own shortcomings with honesty
and humility. May He (SWT) enables us to improve ourselves and uplift our
communities. (Ameen).
