Our Prophet Mohammed (PBUH)
 By Shaykh Ashraf Salah

Dear Brothers And Sisters In Islam: We are commanded by Allah (SWT) to know about our Prophet (PBUH), about his life, about his miracles, about his birth, about his manners, about his faith, about his worship.

"Indeed in the Messenger of Allah you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for the meeting with Allah and the last day, and remembers Allah much". (al-Ahzab 21).

On the other hand, opposing his command and changing his sunna is misguidance and innovation. It is threatened by Allah with utter privation and punishment. Allah (SWT) says:
"Whoever splits from the Messenger  after the guidance is clear to him and follows other than the path of the believers, We shall entrust him to what he has turned to and expose him unto Hell - an evil retreat!" (Women 115).
Dear Brothers And Sisters In Islam:  Allah (SWT) describes His Prophet (PBUH):
"By the grace of Allah, you are gentle towards the people; if you had been stern and ill-tempered, they would have dispersed from round about you" (Ale-Imran:159)
The Prophet (PBUH) is the most just, the most decent, the most truthful at speech, and the most honest of all. Those who have exchanged speech with him, and even his enemies, acknowledge his noble qualities. Even before the Prophethood he was nicknamed Al-Ameen (i.e. the truthful, the trustworthy). He (PBUH) was always the first to greet another and would not withdraw his hand from a handshake till the other man withdrew his. If one wanted to say something in his ears, he would not turn away till one had finished (Abu Dawud, Tirmizi). ‘Aishah (RAA) said: “The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) , whenever he is given the opportunity to choose between two affairs, he always chooses the easiest and the most convenient. But if he is certain that it is sinful, he will be as far as he could from it. He has never avenged himself; but when the sanctity of Allah is violated he would. That would be for Allah’s not for himself”. (Bukhari).

Dear Muslims: Allah (SWT) asks the Prophet (PBUH) to remind his Nation that it is essential for those who claim to love God, to love His Prophet: "Say to them: If you love God, follow (and love and honor) me, and God will love you" (3:31).

Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy upon him, said: "Loving the Prophet is inextricably linked to loving Allah; Indeed Allah (SWT) has combined them in the Qur’an and warned those who give precedence to anything such as relatives, wealth, land or anything else. Allah (SWT) says:

"Say, [O Muhammad], 'If your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your wives, your relatives, wealth which you have obtained, commerce wherein your fear decline, and dwellings with which you are pleased are more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger and Jihaad [i.e., striving] in His cause, then wait until Allah executes His command. And Allah does not guide the defiantly disobedient people.'" (At-Tawbah: 24).

This love is confirmed when one gives preference to the love of the Prophet (PBUH) over the love of anything or anyone else. This applies especially when a conflict arises between obeying the Prophet (PBUH) and something else that is beloved to a person (such as another person, object, or personal desires).

Dear Brothers And Sisters In Islam: This obligation to love the Prophet  means to obey him, to remember him, to follow his example, and to be proud of him as Allah is proud of him, since Allah has boasted about him in His Holy Book by saying:

"Truly you are of a magnificient character" (al-Qalam 4).
The important of loving the Prophet  is that it differentiates the believers in the perfection of their iman. In an authentic hadith related in Bukhari and Muslim the Prophet (PBUH) said:

"None of you believes until he loves me more than he loves his children, his parents, and all people." In another hadith in Bukhari he said: "None of you believes until he loves me more than he loves himself."

Moreover, the perfection of faith is dependent on love of the Prophet  because Allah and His angels are constantly raising his honor, as is meant in the verse: "Allah and His angels are praying on the Prophet" (33:56).
The Divine order that immediately follows in the verse is:

"O believers, pray on him, (and praise) him and send him utmost greetings" (al-Ahzab 56).

Dear Muslims: We should express happiness for the Prophet  coming to us as Allah (SWT) said in Qur'an: "Of the favor and mercy of Allah let them rejoice". (Yunus 58).
The Prophet (PBUH) is a mercy to the whole mankind, Allah (SWT) says:
"We did not send you except as a mercy to human beings" (Al-Anbiya' 107).

Loving the Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) gives one the great reward of being with him in paradise. A man asked the Prophet  about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, "When will the Hour be?" The Prophet (PBUH) said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle. " The Prophet  (PBUH) said, "You will be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet (i.e., "You will be with those whom you love.") Therefore, I love the Prophet  , Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs. Anas narrated it.

In another occasion, a man came to the Prophet (PBUH) and said: "Messenger of Allah, I love you more than my family and my possessions. I remember you and I cannot wait until I can come and look at you. I remember that I will die and you will die and I know that when you enter the Garden, you will be raised up high with the Prophets. When I enter it, I will not see you." Allah (AWT) then revealed:

"Whoever obeys Allah and the Messenger, they are with those whom He has favored: the Prophets (peace be upon them all), the True Saints, the Martyrs, and the Righteous. Ah! What an excellent company." (4:69). The Prophet  called the man and recited the verse to him.
Tabarani and Ibn Mardawayh narrated it from A'isha (RAA).

May Allah (SWT) help us to follow the example of the Prophet (PBUH), bestow us his companionship in paradise and forgive us all (Ameen).
